Race Report – June 2023 – Poznan, Poland
Well done Poznan, this was a fantastic race weekend and the first of it’s kind for the track which celebrates 100 yrs old this year. The Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship was greatly welcomed by the Polish supporters who filled the circuit on both days and gave really positive reviews of their experience.
The team collected a 3rd Place trophy along with a 3rd Place Team trophy with Taylors Trucksport, another great team representing the UK. NWT Motorsport now have 6 podiums in total, are 4th place overall in The Promoters Cup and 12th of the 15 trucks in the Championship standings.
The truck faced some traction issues throughout the morning practices and qualifying, after problem solving, trial and testing for most of Saturday, Race 1 saw us finish in 13th Place. Driver John Newell gave huge appreciation to the Team Engineers as they worked for hours and were able to change the front axle and alter the steering geometry.
Race 2 was a mass of drama and action, the reverse grid always presents plenty of overtaking opportunities and John battled hard moving from 13th to 8th place, taking a 3rd Place trophy. Mark Taylor also showed great resilience to take a 2nd place podium meaning that together NWT and Taylors took the team trophy, these were given to our 2 Polish Team members Rafal and Tomasz
to keep.
The red flag was disappointing in Race 3 as John had a brilliant start moving up 4 places, however as the trucks had not completed a full lap of the circuit the red flag called for a new start. There were early battles as John moved up to 12th place, he said “it is a great track but very technical, it has extremely fast sections and then extremely slow bends which restricts the opportunity to overtake”. The final race pushed all trucks to their limits and NWT moved up once more to finish in 11th place and improve lap times significantly.
The autograph sessions were extremely popular as adults and children queued for photos with the drivers, children lined up at the trucks to have photos and speak with John and the team. Having 2 team members who speak Polish was great for the fans but also the media as our team gave regular interviews live to the Polish audiences. NWT also filmed interviews with John, the team working on the truck and captured branded parts, this content will be used within the marketing channels to continue to boost the online presence and engagement.
The next race weekend will be held at Nurburgring, Germany on the 15th and 16th July, if you have merchandise that you would like to send us please do get in touch as this will have huge crowds. The race calendar is below and should more information be required please head over to the NWT Motorsport website, where team merchandise can also be purchased.
